Coverage
Comprehensive Coverage
With more than 7,100 part numbers available for hybrid and electric vehicles combined, Standard® and Four Seasons® lead the way in providing parts for the vehicles of the future. In addition, many of the parts that fail on hybrid and electric vehicles also fail on ICE vehicles, like ADAS sensors, Collision components, and TPMS Sensors. These parts are considered “powertrain-neutral” meaning they’re the same regardless of powertrain.
- Many of the same parts that fail on Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles also fail on hybrids and EVs.

Market
Growing Market
Over 90% of all new vehicles sold still have an ICE powertrain (including hybrids and plug-in hybrids), but that share is projected to decrease quickly in the coming years. By 2030, more than half of all vehicles sold will have some type of electric powertrain, with 35% being fully electric.
Full-electric vehicles are projected to represent 60% of all new vehicle sales by 2035 and hybrids will account for another 16%. Standard® has evolved with vehicle technology for over 100 years and we are prepared for the shift in powertrains.
- Standard® and Four Seasons® offer more than 50,000 parts that are powertrain neutral, meaning that they are the same whether the powertrain is gas, diesel, hybrid or electric.

Service Opportunities
Service Opportunities
With two different systems powering each vehicle, hybrids have more components compared to gas or diesel vehicles. Many hybrids are also more than 10 years old. More parts and an aging population means that hybrid service opportunities will increase in the coming years.
- Hybrids like the Toyota Prius and Ford Interceptor Utility are becoming increasingly popular for fleets.

ABS Speed Sensors
Features & Benefits
The ABS speed sensors on some newer vehicles measure more than just the speed of each wheel. They also monitor the direction in which the wheel is rotating. A wheel that is rotating backwards will send a unique signal to the ECU that lets the vehicle know the speed and direction of that wheel. This data is used by the electronic safety systems to help keep everyone in the vehicle safe. Standard® ABS Sensors are direct-fit replacements that feature superior magnetic circuit materials engineered to deliver higher voltage output, preventing ABS system failure.

Tech Tips & Impact on Vehicle Systems
As experienced ASE-certified automotive technicians themselves, Standard® Pro Trainers are experts in hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Here’s what they say to look out for during the service of electric and hybrid powertrains.
During HVAC system services, the high-voltage system will likely need to be disabled. To avoid a high-voltage leak fault, use a dedicated refrigerant machine or set of gauges and recovery equipment to prevent the oil from other systems contaminating electrical compressors’ non-conductive oil.
Charging EVS and PHEVs generates a lot of heat in the battery. The battery cooling system must be operating properly for the vehicle to charge.
When working on an EV or hybrid, special equipment is required. One of the first tools required is a CAT III or CAT IV digital volt meter. The technician should also be familiar with performing a “Live, Dead, Live” test with the meter to ensure that the vehicle is safely powered down prior to servicing it.
Safety is the first priority when working on hybrids or EVs. Make sure you have an understanding of how the electric drive system works, and wear the appropriate protective equipment.
If a Chevy Bolt won’t charge above 80%, verify that the vehicle isn’t in “Green Energy Mode.” This mode leaves extra capacity in the battery in case the vehicle is driven extensively downhill, and for regenerative braking.
When testing a Honda HEV, view the “Battery Pack Capacity” data PID. If it doesn’t read over 55 Amp/Hours, it is getting to the end of its usable life.
